Live the experience of a refreshing, entertaining, recreating 3–day tour across the north–eastern seaside of Crete, towards the magnificent areas of Elounda Bay and Agios Nikolaos.
Elounda bay area lies 11 km north – west of Agios Nikolaos, and is known for its wind – protected sandy coves, rocky coastlines, the beautiful village of Elounda itself, the fishing harbor, the sunken city of Olous (one of the most important cities during the Minoan era) and of course for the sensational Spinalonga islet.
Elounda bay includes some of the finest hotels and resorts in the world. Executive villas, bungalows, royal suites of all kinds. Greek style is paired with modern design, exceptional comfort and imperial glamour. Private pools and beaches, spas, golf terrains, marinas. Highest–end VIP services, gourmet gastronomy, beach bars, pool bars, scuba diving schools, courts for all kinds of sports combined with ultimate level of privacy and security consist the place with the highest, by far, concentration of top luxury resorts in Greece.
The whole area is the epitome of sublime excellency and recreation. Elounda bay has become top–preferred destination for sheikhs, billionaires, royalties, presidents and all kinds of celebrities.
Following the seaside road towards Plaka, you will be amazed by the tranquil beauty of the landscape. Calm waters, old fishermen in colorful, traditional fishing caïques, tiny sandy or pebbled beaches lay all the way to the charming small fishing village of Plaka and the magnificent fortress – islet named Spinalonga.
Laying exactly at the mouth of Elounda bay, just opposite Plaka, Spinalonga stands as the natural guardian of the huge harbor (see the image gallery below). During the Venetian occupation (1211 – 1669) the whole islet became an impressive and highly effective fortress, so effective that permitted to the Venetians to occupy Elounda bay until 1715, almost 50 years after the Ottomans had conquered Crete (1669).
From 1903 to 1957 Spinalonga was known as the island of the outcasts because Greek authorities decided to establish an isolated colony for lepers and political prisoners. Many tragic stories about love, hate, pain and separation happened there. Victoria Hislop was inspired by them (among many other authors) to write her best – seller “The Island”.
Today Spinalonga is the most popular archaeological site in Crete after Knossos as thousands of tourists visit the picturesque islet every summer.
Agios Nikolaos is an exclusively beautiful town surrounding the homonymous, small yet impressive lake. This place is truly scenic with a lot of neoclassical buildings, restaurants, bars, shops and intense night life.
Most of the seashores in and around the town, rocky or sandy, are wind – protected and outstandingly gorgeous.
The atmosphere is cosmopolitan and extravagant as some of the oldest top–luxurious resorts of Greece, built more than fifty years ago, are located here. A feeling of leisure, nostalgia and romance hovers all over the place.
Lake Voulismeni, in the center of the town, is definitely unique. A local legend says that the lake is bottomless. Actually, some people talk about a huge hole in the middle of the lake, a kind of tunnel, which goes as far as the Santorini volcano.
We invite you aboard to share together the ultimate experience of sailing along the divine seashores of Elounda and Agios Nikolaos. It is absolutely the best way to reveal all these ultimate beauties laying around.
